Meritxell Campos Canudas
Sebastes is a fish genus belonging to Sebastidae family. Most of them are known as rock’s fish in the market. Some people call them oceanic perch, sea perch or gallineta. The major part of Sebastes species are located in the North Pacific, although two of them (S. capensis y S. oculatus) live in the South Pacific/Atlantic and four (S. fasciatus, S. mentella, S. norvegicus y S. viviparus) inhabit in the North Atlanatic. The coast of South California is the zone with more diversity of Sebastes, with 56 species.
