Coleoptera (from de Greek koleos: «box», pteron: «wing») are an order of insects with up to 375.000 described species. It has so many species as the vascular plants or mushrooms and 66 times more species than mammals. It contains more species than any other order in the whole animal kingdom., followed by lepidoptera (butterflies and moths), hymenoptera (bees, wasps and ants) and dyptera (flies, mosquitoes). The common names of these beetles is used as a synonym of coleoptera, but lots of them have their own common name, like weevils, woodworms, borers, ladybugs, cockchafers, oilers, stag beetles, fireflies, etc.
