We disseminate the scientific illustration and we organize the Illustraciencia award, exhibitions, courses and activities.

Our goal is to promote scientific illustration in all its forms and reward the work of scientific illustrators through the call for the International Award on Scientific Illustration. For each edition, an itinerant collective exhibition and a catalog with the 40 selected works are made.

Scientific / naturalist illustration

Scientific illustration is considered as a discipline at the service of scientific communication: an activity made to clarify, simplify and objectify certain concepts. It could be defined as a way to order visual information to create an image which synthesizes certain scientific information. Its characteristic traits are focalization, scientific rigour and a didactic aim, which must lead the composition, colours, textures, scale and shapes. It is an image accompanying a scientific text.

Naturalist illustrations search for the harmony in the compositions. In this way, the final works do not have to be necessarily reliable to the reality since they respond to the author’s personal view. Furthermore, naturalist illustrations focus on explore themes closed to the nature like life and biodiversity representations.
