We disseminate  scientific illustrations and organize the Illustraciencia award, exhibitions, courses and activities.

Our goal is to promote scientific illustration in all its forms and award the work of scientific illustrators through the convening of  the International Award on Scientific Illustration. For each edition, an itinerant collective exhibition and a catalog with  40 selected works is made.

Scientific illustration is considered a discipline at the service of scientific communication: an activity made to clarify, simplify and objectify certain concepts. It could be defined as a way to organize visual information to create an image which synthesizes certain scientific information. Scientific illustration can be characterized by its focus, the scientific rigor and its didactic purpose which directs the artists to choose the composition, colours, textures, scale and shapes. It is an image that accompanies a scientific text.

Naturalist illustrations search for the harmony in compositions. As a result,, the final works do not necessarily have to be trustworthy to the reality but rather, they correspond more to a personal vision of the author. Furthermore, naturalist illustrations focus on explorative themes close to the nature such as representations of life and biodiversity.
